Safety in Bogotá: Top recommendations

As a large and busy city, Bogotá offers much to explore, but it’s wise to stay alert and informed. Whilst it is generally safe, it is important to take precautions when travelling around the city.

1) Accommodation: The hotels shown on the map are located in neighbourhoods that are preferred by locals and international visitors. If choosing an Airbnb, we recommend staying in these areas to help ensure a more comfortable and secure experience while exploring all that Bogotá has to offer.

2) Transport: Public transport in Bogotá mainly consists of buses, rapid bus systems, and taxis. For added convenience and safety, apps like Uber are commonly recommended to move around the city.

3) Theft: Petty theft, such as phone snatching, can occur—especially in crowded areas or near busy streets. To reduce risk, keep valuables out of sight and stay aware of your surroundings.

4) Nightlife: Bogotá has a lively nightlife, and we know many of you will be celebrating before and after the big day! While you're out enjoying the city, please be mindful—avoid accepting drinks or items from strangers in bars or clubs, and try to stick with your group. Staying aware and looking out for each other will help ensure everyone has a fun and safe experience.

5) Illicit substances: As you enjoy your time in Bogotá, we kindly remind our guests that the sale and purchase of illicit substances are illegal in Colombia and closely monitored by local authorities. For your safety and peace of mind, we encourage guests to be mindful of local laws and customs regarding these substances.

These are some of our favourite hotels to stay in Bogotá. These neighbourhoods are the closest to some of the best restaurants and attractions in the city (see our pages on What to visit and Where to eat).
